Mask is a prop to show us a fashion, character, feeling and even a culture things. Different masks can show different variety of feeling for example: sad, happy, non-emotional, angry, confused, etc. The mask is mainly used for performance and dancing (Masquerade, culture festival). The party that uses mask is “Masquerade” which uses the mask to cover up the faces and emotion to not let other people (dance partners and surrounding people). This party is really well-known and even at my school, when it was a special week we dress up as if we are going to “Masquerade”. Also mask can show different character in performance. But if we have a mask that shows the characteristic of the character, then the movement is getting important. Because even the mask was in sad emotion but the movement is jumping and hopping (which shows happiness) doesn’t fit much and it will make people (audience) confuse about the play.So in different subjects, there is different part of things that getting important to it.
For my class, in Visual Art need the emotion and expression in or on the mask but in performing art, we need the movement that fits with the mask. And for LA English, we need to feel a emotion and feelings in to write a essay, poet or poem. But I think the subjects that doesn’t relate to Mask is Physical Education (PE) class because they use power and energy to move around so the class doesn’t need the expression during learning.
Different type of mask? And different country/culture mask?
